The study of ufology is replete with reports of "close encounters" with strange, unknown beings. And while the physical description of these creatures varies widely (especially prior to the alleged "alien abduction phenomena" which began being reported in the late 1970s), today the most common portrayal of the supposed "space alien" is that of a short, extremely thin creature with an oversized pear-shaped head; large almond-shaped black eyes; lipless mouth; gaunt, vestigial nose; holes instead of ears, with virtually no muscle tone, hair or fat. Many times referred to as "grays" due to their pale, dark skin, this image of the alleged "highly intelligent being from another planet" now dominates pop culture with everything from movies and t-shirts, to balloons, dolls, toys and candy.
Because established science views the physical body description of the "gray" as hypothetically "scientific", the overriding theory of many ufologists is that these creatures are quite possibly "real". Of course, the physical attributes of the gray are only seen as "credible" by modern science because its attributes fit neatly into their theory of evolution. The "reasoning" goes something like this: The small, slender-bodied, big-headed creature "evolved" from other human-like beings somewhere in the Universe. The large head is attributed to its advanced intelligence. As the humanoid "evolved" and became smarter, the head, skull and brain cavity grew also. Because the creature was "evolving" into a more intelligent being, with apparent higher brain functions like "telekinesis" (moving physical objects by thought) and "telepathy" (communication by thought without spoken, audible words), the being no longer needed its mouth or limbs, so they became unnecessary, weak and frail. Evolution teaches that such creatures are possible (and even probable) because they look like the next evolutionary step above humans. Ufo beliefs expert, Martin S. Kottmeyer writes in The Encyclopedia of Extraterrestrial Encounters (2001); "The idea underlying the Grays did not and could not exist before the idea of evolution." (pg. 224)

Of course, the diagram shown above is nonsense, because "evolution" is nonsense. And whether real or imaginary, along with countless first-hand "close encounter" testimonies, this is the "alien evidence" with which Bible-believing christians have to work. The "gray" may be generally acceptable and "scientific" to many ufologist, but it is not acceptable, scientific or biblical when it comes to Scripture. If "grays" are real, then their "humanoid" appearance has a lot more to do with humans (or other human-like beings) than with "evolution". The Bible reveals that there are most definitely differing kinds of flesh (1 Cor. 15:39-40), but how does the supposed "gray" (or any of the other close encounter beings) fit into the biblical classifications of terrestrial and extraterrestrial life? If the "gray" is a real life form, where does it come from, and how can the Bible-believer arrive at a doctrinally-sound answer? Does God create or approve of such beings or are they the product of rebellious factions outside of His guidelines?
