Would you like to know how to better understand and study the Bible? Do you want God to speak directly to you and to teach you truth from His Book? Do you get confused by the vast amount of Bible versions on the market today? Do you get frustrated when modern Bible scholars quote Greek and Hebrew, the languages of the original autographs, in order to shed light on the text and you cannot read or understand Greek or Hebrew? Do you worry that maybe you're not educated enough to learn the Bible accurately? If you answered "YES" to any of these questions, this study was written for YOU.
You Must be Born-Again
While spiritually lost people can come to know the Lord personally by reading the Scriptures, the doctrines of the Bible are not fully accessible to them until they are born-again by the Spirit of God. It is the Spirit of God that teaches truth to man (see John 14:16-17, 15:26, 16:13) and until he receives the Holy Spirit, all he has is an OPINION of the truth. Once the Holy Ghost resides inside a believer, they now have recourse to "the mind of Christ". The apostle Paul put it this way:
"Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Ghost teaches; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ." 1 Corinthians 2:12-16
It is the Lord Jesus Christ who has the ability to "open" the Scriptures and reveal it's truth to us. Two men who were met by the risen Lord verified this when they stated: "... did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the Scriptures?" (see Luke 24:13-32) And again, after His resurrection Christ appeared unto His disciples and it is written; "Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures." (Luke 24:45) The Book of Revelation vividly reaffirms this truth that only the Lord Jesus Christ can open to us the written words of God:
"And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof? And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof." Revelation 5:1-5
Those who desire to learn the Scriptures apart from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit will struggle in vain to expound it's truths. If you want to learn how to study and read the written words of God, you must FIRST deny that any of your supposed "righteousness" plays any part in your eternal salvation and be born again by putting your trust in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ who died on the cross for your filthy sins. "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour". Titus 3:5-6 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13

Ignorant & Unlearned
Without a doubt, education is a god of the 21st century. Whether it's preschool, grade school, high school or college, modern education is so emphasized that many believe it to be a cure-all. It's not. Rewarding the convict with a free education while he's in prison (paid for by the taxpayer) does not create a reformed felon, it creates a smarter criminal. Likewise, there are many today (both saved and lost) who believe that one must have some type of "degree" (see Psa. 62:9 & Job 32:21-22) from an "accredited" college, university or seminary in order to better understand the Bible. Not so. It is also believed that an extensive background in Hebrew and Greek is necessary to comprehend the "true meaning" and intent of God's words, but this too is a lie.
From the Scriptures we learn that it was this supposedly "educated" class that consistently persecuted, harassed and defied the Lord Jesus Christ and His disciples. The Scribes, Pharisees, Lawyers and Chief Priests were always the primary instigators of opposition toward the incarnate Word and His followers (see the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John for numerous examples). Amazingly, these same "professors" of truth were the ones whom Jesus accused numerous times of NOT KNOWING the Scriptures and directly asked them; "Have ye not read?" (see Matt. 12:1-7, 19:3-6, 21:14-16 & 42, Mark 2:23-28, 12:10 & 18-27 & Luke 6:1-5) Imagine the outrage when these "doctors of the law" had to be corrected by the One who authored it. "And the Jews marveled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?" (John 7:15) Please don't misunderstand me, I am not against education or teachers. I'm simply showing from the Scriptures that Christians need to be strongly aware of those who are educated by the world and not by the Holy Spirit. The Lord does not use those who flaunt and strut their knowledge. Instead, the focus is upon those plain, ordinary Bible believers who aren't heady or high minded. Paul was a tent maker. Peter, Andrew, James and John were fishermen. Matthew was a tax collector. Notice the reaction of the rulers and elders of Israel when they heard the preaching of these average men; "Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were UNLEARNED and IGNORANT men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus." (Acts 4:13) Also very interesting to note is the fact that while the Bible tells us that Moses was "learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians" (see Acts 7:22), it was God who called Moses out of his Egyptian "school" and used him to lead an entire nation out of bondage.
It is not a requirement for Christians to go to college or seminary to learn the Bible, for this is not the Lord's method of teaching the Bible. College is not an divinely established institution. Many pastors and bible teachers hide behind a masters or doctorate degree in order to cover-up their infidelity toward the words of God. The Apostle Paul writes:
"For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise: and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence." 1 Corinthians 1:26-29

Receiving the words of God
How do you receive the word of God? When I say "word of God" I'm referring specifically to the book that God wrote (the Scriptures) and preserved up to our modern era via the Received Text, culminating in the Authorized King James Bible. How one receives the Bible plays a major role in how the Scriptures are studied. There are basically only two ways to initially "receive" the written words of God. Paul, realizing this fact, wrote to the church:
"For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe." 1 Thess. 2:13
The two ways to receive God's word are (1.) as the word OF MEN or (2.) as the word OF GOD. This may seem simplistic, but upon these two choices hinge the destiny of every man who hears or reads the Bible. An unsaved man who will not hear the Scriptures will end up in a lake of fire. A saved man who will not believe every word of God's Book cuts himself off from further revelation. For, as the Holy Spirit has testified, the word of God ONLY has an effect on those who BELIEVE IT (Did you get that?). Many, many pastors and Bible teachers of our day (Liberal or Conservative, take your pick) DO NOT receive the Bible as the word OF GOD. Instead, the Scriptures are received as either a "reliable translation" OF MAN which has numerous transcription errors or the written word is rejected outright and replaced with a communistic "gospel" of global peace and tolerance. In either case, it's clear that neither man receives the Bible "as it is in truth" THE word of God, but both leaders have accepted the King James Bible as an imperfect work OF MAN and not a pure, preserved work OF GOD. The Scriptures tell us:
"The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever." Psalms 12:6-7
Christians need not worry that God can't preserve his words in English for the modern 21st century. Those who don't believe this are calling God a liar and receive ALL BIBLE VERSIONS as impure translations of MEN.

Never Forget This...
If you get nothing else from this study, at least get this: THE purpose of all pastors, Bible teachers and scholars who correct, add-to, take-away-from or criticize the Authorized King James Bible is to teach you that there is absolutely NO BOOK in the world today that contains all the perfect, pure and preserved written words of God. They may profess to be able to show you transcription errors and mistakes in an AV, but there is NOWHERE that they can point you to a perfect book of God. If they're right (and of course, they're not) then the modern Christian has NO means of doctrine, NO means of correction, NO means of instruction and NO way of being made perfect through the Scriptures (see 2 Tim. 3:16-17). Because, according to them, we DO NOT have the written words of God today. If the God Who created the universe manifested himself in the flesh and CONFINED His EVERY MOVE to the words of a written Book, don't you dare let any infidel accuse you of being a "Bible worshiper". If the words of God's book were important enough to dictate the movements of God manifest in the flesh, then they should at least be a hundred times as important to the born-again Christian of today. The Bible says; "Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read ..." (Isa. 34:16). How can we read the literal "book of the Lord" if all we have are imperfect translations?
Students of the Bible should always receive and believe EVERY WORD of God's Book no matter what modern Christian "scholarship" may teach. After all, it has always been Satan's business to introduce DOUBT when dealing with the words of God. (see Genesis 3)

Don't Skip the Details
With the advent of the ASV (American Standard Version) of 1901, a mass influx of Bible versions have saturated the market (easily over 200 versions). As a result of this flood of PER-versions, churches can no longer read from the Scriptures aloud in unison. Sermons have become GENERALIZED discourses transmitting only the supposed "ideas" or "messages" of God and not His exact WORDS in English. Christianity, as a whole, has become weak and shallow. Contrary to the modern generalization of God's Book, due to an attempt to synchronize ALL BIBLE VERSIONS, God DOES NOT convey His words in broad generalities, but quite the opposite. When it comes to His words, God is a God of detailed exactness.
• God did not simply tell Noah to build an ark (the general message), but He gave Noah the exact measurements on it's dimensions telling Noah precisely what to put in it. (see Gen. 6:14-16 & 7:1-3)
• The basic idea given to Moses was to build a sanctuary for the Lord (see Ex. 25:8), but if the Lord had neglected to give Moses all the elaborate details (see Ex. 25-40) who knows what the tabernacle would have looked like? Moses was required to follow an exact pattern.
• Likewise, when plans were made to build the House of the Lord, the Holy Spirit transmitted a distinct pattern for King David to give to his son Solomon. (see 1 Chron 28)
Many other examples from the Bible can be given illustrating our Creator's concern for DETAILS such as every hair on our head being numbered (Matt. 10:30 et.al.), all the stars being both named and numbered (Psa. 147:4), and the genealogies of the tribes of Israel (1 Chron. 1-9) just to name a few. What do you suppose the Lord would have done if Moses built the Ark of the Covenant two cubits high instead of the instructed "cubit and a half"? Do you think God would have accepted it? Of course not. Why not? Because God's EXACT WORDS were not obeyed. The Bible tell us that man is to live by "every word" of God, not just the supposed "ideas" or "messages" (see Matt. 4:4 & Luke 4:4). Likewise, one cannot glean the truth of Scripture by reading multiple versions and then relegating these various readings to the most common denominator, for when this is done ALL THE DETAILS are skipped over. If you want the "whole council" of God, you'll have to read an Authorized King James Bible. Christians need EVERY WORD of God, so don't skip the details.

Seven Tips for Bible Study
1.) Sincerely desire the written word. (1 Peter 2:2)
2.) Pray for wisdom. ( James 1:5, Prov. 4:5-7 & 7:4-5)
3.) Don't expect God to teach you His truth if you never read His Book, he will not do it. "Going to church" is not enough, because your pastor could be deceived, and if he were how would you know it? (Jer. 17:5, 2 Tim. 3:13)
4.) God does not usually reveal all the truth in one verse. If you want to learn about a specific subject read the Bible from cover to cover so you can get the whole council of God on the matter. By comparing Scripture with Scripture, you'll be able to get a Biblical perspective on your topic. Have a special subject to study each time you read the Book through. (Isa. 28:9-10)
5.) Studying the Scriptures is a commandment and not a suggestion. Christian are to STUDY the Bible and not just quickly read through it. Only the Christian who studies the Bible can show himself "approved" unto God. (2 Tim. 2:15)
6.) Never doubt the Bible. If you come upon a verse of Scripture you do not understand, simply read it and believe it. It could be that the Lord has not chosen to reveal it to you yet. Many things in the bible are HIDDEN and are not revealed until the Christian has matured as a result of studying the Bible through multiple times. Don't expect to learn everything at once. (Heb. 5:13-14)
7.) Read the Bible from cover to cover and when that's finished, read it again, and then again and again. Each time you read it, you can build upon the knowledge of your previous readings. Read God's Book until the Lord returns or until He calls you home. (Josh. 1:8, Rom. 15:4)
